The MLS Blog is a helpful tool that can help you look for the home that’s right for you. Not only does it allow you to look at homes on the market on your own time, but it can show you only the types of homes you want to see, saving you time.
When you realtor sets you up with an account to access the MLS Blog, you will receive an email. Essentially, the email will tell you that your realtor has set up a personal website, or “portal” for you to access. When you click on “My Portal” in the email, it will take you to the MLS
Blog website. Your email address will already be entered, and you can use it as your username. The site will then allow you to create a password. The main purpose of the MLS Blog is for your realtor to see your likes and dislikes. Seeing what you like, dislike, and choose to save on the site allows your realtor to help you find exactly what you’re looking for.
“List” view shows everything within the parameters you are looking for. Your realtor will set this up in advance, so you don’t need to. The “List” tab will show the price, location, type of dwelling (single family, townhouse, etc.), number of bedrooms and bathrooms, square footage, price per square foot, and the subdivision. You can sort the “List” view by price, town, bedrooms, etc. if you want to be more specific by selecting the option in the top right corner of the screen. You can also sort by whether the house has recently “Changed”. If it’s “Changed”, this usually means that it’s either a brand new listing or a reduced price.
The “Map” tab at the top will take you to a different view. You can see where individual homes are located on the screen, and areas you are interested in are highlighted. If you have a house selected in “Map” view, it will appear as a star so that you can see where exactly it is located. The “Photos” tab will show you photos of any house you select.
The “Detail” tab will basically give you any and all other information you may want to know about the home. By clicking on the “Detail” tab, you can not only see the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, square footage, price per square foot, and dwelling type; but also cross streets, public remarks, community features, kitchen features, construction, utilities, fees and homeowner association information, how many days on the market, and much more. In order to see the most information possible, you may want to click the arrow at the top right of the homes listed on the screen. This will minimize the list and allow you to read through the information
If you decide that there’s a home you really like, clicking the star icon will “like” the house and let your realtor know you’re interested. It is also highly recommended that you write down any houses you see that you know you want to visit. If there are any houses you don’t want on your list at all, you can click the “no” symbol, which will hide that particular house so that it doesn’t continue to make its way into your list.
Finally, the “Messages” tab will allow you to send a message to your realtor, which will then send him or her an email.
