How to Organize Your Home

Organizing your entire home can sound like an incredibly daunting task. From deciding where things should go to determining what you need to keep and what can be donated, the task can be overwhelming at first. However, there are ways to make organizing your home fast, easy and efficient! Read on to learn some tips on how you can get your house in order!

  1. Start with a purge – Any successful organization project begins with deciding what you want to keep, and what you no longer need. This can be difficult for some, especially since some objects may have sentimental meaning. However, you don’t need to get rid of everything all at once. A great way to see whether or not you should purge an item is to store it out of sight for a period of time. If a few weeks go by and you don’t use or miss the item, donating it is probably a good idea.
  2. Establish groups of similar things – Once you’ve determined what you will keep and what you will purge, begin sorting things into groups that make sense. For example, if you’re organizing your kitchen cabinets, you may want to put similar foods together, such as boxes of pasta and noodles in one area and canned foods in another. When you see how much you have in each group, it’s easier to figure out the best way to organize the area.
  3. Find organizational tools that work for you – Once you know how much you need to organize and how much space you have, you can begin investing in bins, containers and dividers. These don’t have to be purchased from a fancy store. Instead, you can re-use some common household items. For example, if you’re organizing your desk area, you can throw paper clips and pens in small jars. Having fun with your organizers can reinvent an otherwise ordinary space and give your home a makeover with little cost or effort.
  4. Label as much as possible – Labelling is not only useful during the tidying process, but also long after you’ve organized the area. For example, if you clean up your pantry and label each of your spices before putting them back, you’ll likely be able to keep the space neater since you can conveniently see what you have. The more you’re able to label before putting it away, the easier you’ll be able to find what you need.

The best way to tackle organizing a large area is in small stages. Following the tips above can help you take on tidying up your home step-by-step.
